               About this Product

The Tube is here. Nokia’s first full touch-screen cell phone was announced today at Nokia Remix in London/Singapore, along with a crapload of accessories, and, of course, the Comes With Music service. There’s nothing too surprising here - the 5800 XpressMusic was long rumored to be a mid-range music phone, and it certainly delivers in that aspect. But will it win the hearts of its target market - namely, everyone?
Since the 5800 XpressMusic is all about the screen, let’s see what we’ve got here: a 3.2″ widescreen resistive touch-screen, tactile feedback, and 30 fps video playback. Interesting. The camera is a 3.2 megapixel, Carl Zeiss-powered, dual-LED-sporting, 30-fps-recording, TV-outable shooter with one-touch media sharing to Share on Ovi, Flickr, Facebook, etc.
There’s also a lot of connectivity options. The data sheet lists 3 different versions of the device, two of which being fairly identical minus the 3G connectivity (WCDMA 2100/900 vs 850/1900). I’d expect the two to be the Euro/International and North American versions, and both come armed with WLAN and quad-band GSM. The third version looks like the el cheapo version headed for China, with what looks like nothing but quad-band GSM. Oh well.
And of course, since the 5800 is branded with the XpressMusic tag, expect the expected: A2DP, 3.5mm audio jack, and expandable microSD memory (up to 16GB). Surround sound stereo speakers also make an appearance on the 5800, although these aren’t exactly what I’d call the norm for XpressMusic phones. And it still remains to be seen whether the 5800 lives up to the XpressPlastic name.
Battery life is rated at up to 9 hours of talk time over GSM, with up to 35 hours of music playback. All this from the 5800’s 1320 mAh lithium ion.
